Throughout the week I've felt grateful for:

...The two little lemons on our lemon tree that make the three of us so happy.
.
...Getting a surprise package from my grandma with some fabric she found in her basement and thought I might like to make fabric buttons with. Bless her heart.
.
...The fact that the noise we heard downstairs in the night wasn't someone trying to break into our house (thank goodness), but a rodent under the floorboards. Unpleasant, but a much better alternative.
.
...All of us scrubbing the kitchen cupboards and Jeff cleaning the kitchen floor until it practically shone.
.
...Feeding my loves delicious breakfasts. Always feels good to nourish those we love.
.
...Bracken helping me tie buttons on cards so I could get my button orders mailed out before his naptime.
.
...Jeff's idea to tie something on the roof of our car when we ran errands in town so we didn't have to unload the whole car from market and then load it right back up again when we got home.
.
...Seeing a sign on our drive that said: "Wanna Feel Rich? Count Your Blessings." It was very timely with the conversation we had just been having.
.
...How much Bracken loves loves dancing these days. Constantly asking me to put on the music, while he creates his costumes and practices balancing things on his head- like tamborines.
.
...Productive mornings with cooking, cleaning, dishes, sweeping, laundry. Love to start the day that way.
.
...Breakfast with collards and garlic from the garden.
.
...New discovery: melon with a little bit of salt sprinkled on top. Yum.
.
...The sound of the first raindrops on the roof. (Was it just me or did Oregonians everywhere let out a little sigh of relief?) The weather has been enjoyable, but it's been so dry and some rain is very nice.
.
...Giving Bracken his very own roll of tape, since he's always asking for the tape we package orders with. Though it didn't last for more than a few days, it made for lots of inventive creations and entertainment.
.
...All of us going out in the garden in the evening and harvesting green beans together to have with breakfast the next morning.
.
...Watching Bracken with his friends, having so much fun while they chased each other around a tree and played tag.
.
...The sweet handmade birthday gift a friend gave me at market yesterday, it brightened my whole day. (Thank you Heather!
.
...Help and support in challenging situations and knowing who I can count on.
.
...Turning 29 today!

Throughout the week I've felt grateful for:

...More sunflowers blooming in the garden in different colors. And still seeing bees all over the place.
.
...Our electricity being back on when we came home from a town trip. Always nice when it's not out for too long.
.
...The breakfast Jeff cooked for us on his little camp stove on that morning.
.
...Trying new things. And then being glad we did.
.
...A surprise package in the mail with some sweet gifts for each of us from my mom's summer travels. Jeff said it was so fun to get things from different parts of the world.
.
...Listening to music on our drive. Why do I forget to do that? Every time I rediscover it I'm glad.
.
...Two days with a bit of sewing. I like that it's slowly becoming part of my routine again.
.
...Gifting some plant starts to a friend. Over the years we've contributed quite a few plants to each others gardens.
.
...Communication to clear things up.
.
...Exploring an area with walking paths and scenic views. Always fun to see new places.
.
...Harvesting, gathering, and all the abundance this time of year brings.
.
...The warmth of the sun. To still be soaking it up. And drying our clothes in it.
.
...A headset on our phone to keep my hands free to fold laundry, do dishes, clean, or just take a little break and knit.
.
...Getting a little better at asking for help when we need it and then appreciating the help we get so much.
.
...The moment Bracken and I saw Jeff drive up the driveway after being gone at market all day. Only a day I know, but we missed him like crazy.
.
...Homemade chicken soup for dinner and Jeff and Bracken gathering the finishing touches in the garden: parsley and basil.

Throughout the week I've felt grateful for:

...Bracken asking me to hand him a flower or two so he can sip the nasturtium nectar. He loves that.
.
...September. The start of a new month. My favorite month. (It's my birthday month and I've always loved September.)
.
...Getting all our market things dried out from our rainy market day. Then getting it all packed up again for another market day.
.
...The people who gave me the tip to use rubbing alcohol to get the pen stains out of Bracken's pants (where he drew all over himself when I wasn't looking.) It really worked and I was so happy because those pants were special ones, handmade by a friend, that we traded for.
.
...A chicken baking in the oven, followed by many delicious meals. Chicken on lettuce from the garden. Chicken broth soup with zucchini, carrots, celery seed, turmeric, and parsley. Yum.
.
...A few evenings cool enough to enjoy some soup. We hadn't had soup in awhile.
.
...Being able to trade for things that are hard for us to afford, like butternut squash.
.
...The manager at the grocery store who let me use their phone when I asked if they knew where a pay phone was. (Since our cell phone ran out of minutes.)
.
...Some nights where Bracken picked up his toys in the living room when I asked him, while I worked in the kitchen, so we could get outside sooner for a bit of "outside time." He did a better job picking things up than he ever had before.
.
...Following my intuition instead of ignoring it. The way I think of following it sometimes is like in the Cat Steven's song: 'It's hard, but it's harder to ignore it.'
.
...Watching Bracken's coloring change and noticing him making an effort to color in the lines a bit, for the first time. I always enjoy watches his changes.
.
...Protecting Bracken at market yesterday when my intuition told me to do so even though the whole situation was so uncomfortable I could hardly bear it. It was a learning experience.

Throughout the week I've felt grateful for:

...Sunflowers. They are one of my very favorite flowers (our living room even has a sunflower theme) and it makes me so happy to see their bright faces blooming in the garden. I'm thankful to Jeff for planting them every time I look at them.
.
...Picking a spot in the yard and starting a faery garden with Bracken. Have been wanting to start one for a long time. Not much there yet, but it's a start.
.
...Being able to catch the lizard we found in our bedroom and bring it outside. I would not have slept as well that night if there was a lizard somewhere in the room.
.
...Watering the garden and harvesting. Gathering eggs. Fresh water in the duck's pond pool. Hanging the laundry on the line. All the outdoor activities that mean I get to enjoy it out there longer.
.
...Mornings in bed, reading by headlamp for a bit while Bracken still slept. Such a treat to get reading time.
.
...My mom being able to make me laugh about things I didn't even know I was capable of laughing about, but really needed to. Her gift. It's true that sometimes one of the best things you can do when you are upset about something is to see the humor in it.
.
...Going out at twilight, with Bracken holding my hand, to close the door on the chicken coop for the night. It always looks so magical that time of day.
.
...A little watermelon from a local farm that brought so much enjoyment. Bracken scooped every last speck of it out with a spoon while we talked to his great-grandma on the phone.
.
...Jeff finding a crock pot at a garage sale for $2 after ours had just broken. Much nicer than any we'd ever had before and we can't be without a crock pot with all the bone broths we make.
.
...Cleaning out and organizing my knitting tub. A little thing that felt so satisfying.
.
...Jeff's physical therapist getting an extension so our insurance will cover physical therapy awhile longer. Bless her heart.
.
...A shower and pajamas. Ahhh.
.
...The pantry being so much easier to walk in after doing a bit of cleaning up and rearranging.
.
...A sweet blog reader dropping off a little surprise for me at our market booth yesterday. (Thank you Trina-Lea and I'm so bummed I didn't get to meet you!)

Throughout the week I've felt grateful for:

...The funny looking bug (or "haha bug" in Bracken's words, it made me think of a jester) making another visit. Seeing one, we really wanted Jeff to see it. We were so glad when not one, but two, came back another evening for Jeff to see and for me to photograph. (It's called a Banded Alder Borer Beetle.)
.
...The healing, regenerating properties of clay.
.
...Eating our first yellow summer squash from the garden. They seem to grow more slowly than our zucchinis do and Bracken checked them every day, always grabbing my hand and wanting me to see the progress.
.
...Finding little adorable pullet eggs every day when we went to gather eggs in the coop. And the wee yolks inside are pretty cute too.
.
...Seeing a bunch of quail in our driveway and Jeff and Bracken being able to sneak quietly outside to see them up close before they were heard and the quail flew off. I watched from the kitchen window while I gave my dad a play by play of what was happening on the phone.
.
...My dad officially working for himself and starting up his own business again. He and my stepmom have been working really hard to make it happen. It was wonderful to hear his voice on that first official day, really happy for him.
.
...Food when you're super hungry. It tastes especially good.
.
...Talking to a hummingbird in the garden. My bird sounds don't compare to my dad's bird whistles or Jeff's bird calls, but the hummingbird still responded to me and it made me happy.
.
...Bracken drawing his very first letter: T. He drew a big one and a little one, then pointed and told me "BIIIGG T.... little baby gnomey t."
.
...Sewing on a sewing machine for the first time in many, many years. What a good feeling.
.
...Getting the car vacuumed and cleaned out while Jeff was at physical therapy. And having an enthusiastic helper who put the quarters in and did some vacuuming.
.
...Finding some shirts I loved (and needed) from the thrift store for much less than a single new shirt would have cost.
.
...Jeff working in the shop, Bracken watercolor painting next to him, and me cleaning the kitchen, all happily occupied with our tasks for a time.
.
...Juicing cucumbers from the garden with a beet, carrots, apple, lemon, and more. Delicious.
.
...Jeff turning an inexpensive little wooden table we found at a garage sale into a new shelf space for Bracken's books (and usable table on top.) Every little bit really helps with our organization around here.
.
...Fresh reading material from the library. Bracken goes to pick out books for me to read to me and constantly says "new book..." as he searchs for something new. We enjoy the change of the library books we bring home.
.
...Sewing a tiny pillow for the dollhouse for Bracken one morning with my sewing machine.
.
...Being able to successfully retrieve my tiny knitting needle after it disappeared down into the couch.
.
...Hearing Jeff laugh in his sleep, followed by a deep contented sigh. I loved hearing that.
.
...A thoughtful friend bringing me some yarn that they weren't going to use, at market yesterday.
.
...Feeling like we were at the right place at the right time, going with the flow, and having some new opportunities open up.

Throughout the week I've felt grateful for:

...Color in the garden. (My mind has been on planting more flowers lately.)
.
...Watching Bracken play with the dollhouse that was mine when I was little. And his sweet invitation to: "Play me, mama!", wanting me to play with him.
.
...Having a little helper by my side in the kitchen and in the garden, complete with a silk cape and a contagious laugh.
.
...Finding an egg with three yolks! I've found double-yolkers, but finding three little yolks in one egg was a first for me. I told Jeff it was a sign of good fortune.
.
...A friend visiting and sharing some pictures with us she had taken during her last visit awhile ago. Bracken looked so little in them.
.
...The fact that Bracken didn't get into too much trouble when I went and took a shower by myself. I considered it an overall success.
.
...Jeff replacing some lightbulbs and appreciating how much brighter those spaces are.
.
...Vacuuming the rugs and a morning full of cleaning. I was having "cleaning therapy" that day and it did make me feel much better.
.
...A few days with rain watering the garden. (And the fact that rain means less chance of forest fires in this area, it's been so dry.)
.
...Fixing my wobbly table easily, with some folded paper under one leg. Much better.
.
...Our electricity only going out for a few hours one night.
.
...Jeff ordering a part to fix a tool (and feeling a little annoyed since he had just replaced the part not long ago) only to find that the company sent him a replacement for free!
.
...The postcards from Grandma Julie that came all the way from Europe. Bracken was delighted and asked us to read them again and again.
.
...Finding just the thing we were looking for at a garage sale, for hardly any money at all.
.
...Focusing again on what is working in our life instead of what isn't, which tends to happen when I get out of balance. It always does feel better to focus on gratitude.
.
...Coming downstairs after some regenerating time to myself to hear about Jeff & Bracken's adventures in the garden. I came into the room to see them sitting side by side, Jeff working and Bracken watercolor painting and saying "for mama!"
.
...Seeing that our duck Fennel's leg was tangled up in something so I could go over and help her and get her untangled.
.
...Bracken and I being able to sleep this morning after a long and full market day yesterday.

Throughout the week I've felt grateful for:

...Watching the hummingbirds wizz past and then stop suddenly at the runner bean flowers.
.
...Just simply talking with people. With neighbors, with people at market.
.
...Taking a break from watering the garden to "water" the ducks. When the water from the hose sprays down on them, they act like it's the most glorious rainshower.
.
...Bracken holding my hand at bedtime one night and then falling asleep that way.
.
...Three days in a row harvesting homegrown mushrooms in our greenhouse. And then enjoying them in so many meals.
.
...Jeff being able to help our neighbor with his computer problem.
.
...A shower to myself. A rare luxury since becoming a mom.
.
...Bracken playing by me while I watered the garden and then asking for his turn. Watching him proudly dragging that big hose around the garden made me smile.
.
...Ditching my shoes and feeling the earth under my feet.
.
...That our phone works outside a little ways so I could water the upper garden while I chatted with my sister on the phone one night and my mom another night.
.
...Jeff making us another batch of spray cleaner. It works so well and I use it every day. This time he made a big enough batch that we could store some in the pantry and I was so thankful.
.
...The suggestion to call some stores to make sure they had something in stock before I drove all the way to town. It was a good thing I did because they were all out and it saved me a trip. (Thanks Jeff.)
.
...Listening to Jeff and Bracken reading a story together at bedtime.
.
...Beautiful weather at market yesterday. It got rather hot in the afternoon, but the breeze throughout the day was wonderful.
.
...The feeling to go to a different grocery store and finding something for much less expensive than I'd been able to find it elsewhere.

Throughout the week I've felt grateful for:

...Deciding to buy a pot of black eyed susans because I love them and realized we really needed some in the garden. Then coming outside the next morning to see that Jeff had planted them for me. (And for the cute little garden spider that decided to join the pictures.)
.
...The fact that I just called a spider "cute." There was a point in my life where that never would have been a possibility, but I assure you that particular spider was a very nice spider.
.
...A Sunday spent in pajamas.
.
...Jeff transforming our front yard with some weeding, mulch spreading, and removing a big clump of lemonbalm that had become rather unruly in that spot. What a difference that made!
.
...Finding coconut flour on sale. Now I can try out some new recipes.
.
...Watering the garden in the evening while Bracken picked blackberries by me and Jeff mowed the other part of the yard.
.
...A good roll going with the laundry, with all the hot weather for drying on the line.
.
...Watching the hummingbirds chase each other around the garden.
.
...Being able to skype with my mom and grandma while they were in Europe (on their dream trip.) Even though the sound wasn't working on one end, it made for a memorable and humorous conversation, rather like a game of charades. (Turns out I'm not the best at that game, which made it even funnier.)
.
...Laughing that Jeff and I go in Bracken's little swimming pool even though we can hardly fit in there.
.
...Finding a doll I made for Bracken before bedtime one night. He doesn't want to sleep without her these days, so I was glad she showed up after only a fairly short searching session.
.
...Discovering that avocado is delicious in smoothies (after a reader e-mailed and told me about that.) It made the consistency so creamy and I'm definitely a fan.
.
...My mom having her mother's intuition even when she was a continent away and being there for me with words of love and support when I especially needed them that day.
.
...Making a new recipe and how much Bracken loves making recipes with me in the kitchen.
.
...Trades. I don't know what we'd do without them.

Throughout the week I've felt grateful for:

...The lemon blossoms that are completely covering our little lemon tree.
.
...Jeff and I getting some weeds pulled in the garden. (Nevermind we didn't get any other weeding done last week and that there's so much more to do, let's just focus on that small section we did finish.)
.
...The taste of blueberries straight from the bush into your mouth!
.
...Heavy rains watering the garden so well and having days where we didn't need to do any watering at all. (It almost felt like a vacation of sorts.) We were able to focus on indoor work and tasks, which was great.
.
...How easy chickens (and ducks) are to care for and what perfect animals they are for us to keep here.
.
...Cleaning out Bracken's clothes drawers and moving out everything that was getting too small, to make room for everything that fits.
.
...Tart yellow plums from our neighbor's. I love the tang of flavor each time you bite into the skin.
.
...Whenever we found ourselves all out in the garden together. It always seems to be our best quality family time.
.
...Starting to put food up for the winter, bit by bit.
.
...Working to start some good new habits (and writing it down to better remind myself.)
.
...Productive home days. Sometimes there's so much running around, a stretch of home days is always so appreciated.
.
...Jeff reaching over and touching my hand when he could tell something was bothering me. I talked it all out and immediately felt better. Just simply having someone care and listen, means so much.
.
...Food from the backyard. Each and every harvest from our own backyard feels so satisfying.
.
...Help from two friends at market yesterday. One playing with Bracken while another helped me with my knitting. (Thanks Heather and Inge!)
